Activities for Seniors to Enhance their Lives

Elderly activities are not just for entertainment, or to keep busy, or for filling up the hours in a day to avoid boredom. They are also for the healthy maintenance of the body, mind, and spirit which may seem to lag a bit from elderly issues that occur as we age.

We know that taking care of our bodies involves our physical muscles, but we also have so-called "mental muscles," and they both need to be exercised. What are our mental muscles? Reason, imagination, and memory are a few. Our cells renew constantly, including our brain cells. Brain activity needs to be stimulated to keep our brains healthy and memories strong. Just as with our bodies. Exercising our mental muscles with fun yet challenging elderly activities will help with this.

At Avamere Rehab of Junction City, we know you're never too old to learn something new or engage with a new pastime. Here, it's all about providing a variety of senior activities and offering them numerous chances to socialize with one another and their family.

For example:

  • You can demonstrate your creativity through drawing, knitting, scrapbooking, shell-carving, and many other handicrafts.
  • You can observe your spiritual side with a wide range of special religious programs, meditation and prayer. Note: we believe one's religious beliefs are a personal matter and all beliefs are respected by our staff.
  • You can challenge your mind with trivia, word games and other fun activities.
  • You can delight in entertainment acts from the broader community or simply sit back and watch a movie with some freshly popped popcorn.
  • You can share your skills and talents (e.g., teaching others needlepoint or patchwork).

These senior citizen activities, plus many others, allow our residents to interact with their families, make new friends, celebrate life, and most importantly enjoy the community!
